Nissan Juke LCD Illumination
POAL Automotive was consulted to work on the Nissan Juke dashboard LCD screen. The original customer design used two injection moulded white reflectors to try to contain the light in the system, but suffered from light bleed at the top of display and poor contrast, creating both performance and cost challenges.
Our Solution
Revolutionary Design Approach
- Simplified Construction: POAL re-design uses a die-cut reflective polyester film to give a more efficient, low cost construction
- Enhanced Performance: Light bleed removed and contrast enhanced compared to original design
- Superior Lightguide Design: New POAL lightguide with dramatically reduced stray light giving higher contrast display
- Comprehensive Improvement: Not only simplified the design of the reflector, but also reduced light-bleed and improved contrast simultaneously

Before
- Customer’s Original Concept: Two injection moulded white reflectors, light bleed at top of display, poor contrast, high level of light-bleed

vs. After Results
- POAL Automotive Concept: Die-cut reflective polyester film construction, light bleed removed, contrast enhanced, dramatically reduced stray light

Ready to illuminate your next project?
Let’s discuss how POAL can support your automotive lighting requirements.
Key Achievements
The project delivered a complete performance transformation by eliminating light bleed and significantly enhancing display contrast, creating a superior user experience. Design simplification was achieved by replacing the complex dual-reflector system with an efficient single-film solution that was both more effective and easier to manufacture. Cost reduction was accomplished through more economical construction methods while simultaneously improving optical performance, demonstrating the power of intelligent design optimization. The solution showcased innovative lightguide design capabilities that set new benchmarks for LCD illumination in automotive applications.
